Welcome to Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine!

The main interest of our laboratory is Mitochondria.

Our body is highly dependent on energy supply from a compartment of the cell called mitochondria. They are often referred as “powerhouse of the cell” as they produce energy necessary for our life activity. Mitochondria are also involved in many other key functions of the cell. The importance of mitochondria can be recognised by the fact that defects of mitochondria are associated with various human diseases. Links between mitochondria and ageing are also suggested. Therefore, researches on mitochondria at any levels, from fundamental biology to clinical science have the potential to contribute to the improvement of our healthy life and ageing.
Our lab conducts various mitochondrial researches and studies fundamental aspects of mitochondrial function as well as the role of mitochondria in human health and disease. We use a variety of experimental techniques, such as transgenic mice, cell and molecular biology and biochemistry, with state-of-art equipment.

Major themes of our research

  • Mitochondria in cancer and diseases
  • Mitochondrial genome: replication and maintenance
  • Mitochondrial gene expression and mitochondrial translation.
  • Mitochondria and immunity
